Report: THIS WAS OUR TOUGHEST LEAGUE GAME TO DATE. RIVERSIDE STARTED SLOWLY BUT WORKED THERE WAY INTO THE GAME. AFTER 10 MINUTES A GOOD RUN FROM ROSS GILLESPIE DOWN THE RIGHT WING AND TERRIFIC STRIKE SAW THE BALL NESTLE INTO THE BOTTOM CORNER OF THE NET. THE NEXT 10 MINUTES WAS ALL RIVERSIDE PUSHING FOR THE SECOND, AGAINST THE RUN OF PLAY REDBY SCORED. WITH 5 MINUTES OF THE HALF REMAINING A CORNER TO RIVERSIDE ON THE LEFT WAS TAKEN BY MICHAEL WILLIAMSON, A PERFECT BALL FOR RYAN JOHNSON, TO OVERHEAD KICK INTO THE BOTTOM LEFT CORNER. HALF TIME CAME 2-1 TO RIVERSIDE AND WELL DESERVED. RIVERSIDE KICKED THE SECOND HALF OFF AND WITHIN 14 SECONDS THE THIRD GOAL CAME, A LONG SHOT FROM MICHAEL WILLIAMSON WAS DROPPED BY THE KEEPER, AND RYAN JOHNSON LIFTED IT OVER THE KEEPER AND TAPPED IT INTO THE NET. 8 MINUTES LATER SOME GOOD BATTLING ON THE EDGE OF THE BOX BY CONNOR PEACHEY BROUGHT HIM A WELL DESERVED GOAL AND A 4TH FOR RIVERSIDE. BY NOW RIVERSIDE WERE IN TOTAL CONTROL OF THE GAME. FOR SOME REASON RIVERSIDE SWITCHED OFF AND LOST CONCENTRATION THINKING THE GAME WAS OVER. RIVERSIDE SOME HOW MANAGED TO CONCEDED FOUR FURTHER GOALS AND EVENTUALLY LOOSE 5-4 BUT WHAT A GAME. ALL 12 PLAYERS CONCERNED REALLY TRIED AND WERE VERY DISAPPOINTED AT THE END OF THE GAME BUT LETS HOPE WE ALL LEARN AND EVEN WHEN WINNING 4-1 WE KEEP GOING AND CONCENTRATE FOR THE FULL 60 MINUTES.

Report: LEAGUE DUTY TODAY. AC NISSAN KICKED OFF BUT WITHIN ONE MINUTE SEAN TINDALE GOT ON THE END OF A LOOSE BALL AND SCORED FROM 20 YARDS. ALL THE PLAY WAS WITH RIVERSIDE AND HOW WE WENT IN ON HALF TIME WITH ONLY ONE GOAL ADVANTAGE NO BODY KNOWS, AS IT WAS CHANCE AFTER CHANCE. THE SECOND HALF STARTED THE SAME WITH RIVERSIDE ON THE ATTACK ALL OF THE TIME, BUT AFTER FIVE MINUTES OLLIE CLYDESDALE WAS SENT OFF FOR A LITTLE TUG OF THE FORWARDS SHIRT. IT WAS A DECISION BY THE REFEREE WHICH I DID NOT AGREE WITH- A BOOKING AT MOST IF THAT. NISSAN THEN PUSHED FORWARD AND EQUALISED AFTER TEN MINUTES 1-1 WITH TWENTY MINUTES TO GO. THE BOYS DUG DEEP AND AFTER A FURTHER FIVE MINUTES RIVERSIDE WERE 2-1 UP THANKS TO A SNAP SHOT INSIDE THE BOX BY TOM WRAY, RIVERSIDE WENT FURTHER AHEAD THANKS TO ROSS GILLESPIE GOAL. NISSAN SCORED AT THE DEATH TO MAKE IT 3-2 BUT BY THEN RIVERSIDE DESERVEDLY WON THE GAME AND A TREMENDOUS EFFORT BY THE TEN MEN OF RIVERSIDE TO EARN A HARD FOUGHT VICTORY.

Report: RIVERSIDE WELCOMED TOP OF THE TABLE FULWELL TO RIVERSIDE PARK . THE GAME STARTED AT A FAST PACE FROM BOTH SIDES . CHANCES WERE LIMITED AT BOTH ENDS FOR THE FIRST TEN MINUTES . THEN CAME THE FIRST GOAL, CONNOR BELL FLICKED THE BALL THROUGH TO RYAN JOHNSON WHO HEADED INTO THE PATH OF SEAN TINDALE , TO FINISH INTO THE BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER 1-0 RIVERSIDE. RIVERSIDE THEN SETTLED AND PASSED THE BALL MUCH BETTER THAN FULWELL AND LOOKED THE BETTER SIDE . HALF TIME STILL 1-0 TO RIVERSIDE WITHOUT A SHOOT FROM FULWELL. THE SECOND HALF WAS MUCH AS THE FIRST, RIVERSIDE PUSING FORWARD , THREE GOOD CHANCES WENT BEGGING FROM RIVERSIDE RYAN , CONNOR AND GILLY ALL COULD HAVE MADE IT SAFE . AS THE GAME WENT ON RIVERSIDE COULD HAVE KILLED THE GAME WHEN A GREAT CHANCE WENT A MISS , FIRST CONNOR BELL SAVED BY THE LEGS OF THE KEEPER . GILLY THEN HIT THE DEFENDER ON THE LINE FROM THE REBOUND AND MICHAEL HIT THE OTHER DEFENDER ON THE LINE . NEVER MIND RIVERSIDE , STILL WON 1-0 EXCELLENT GAME, BUT AN EVEN BETTER RESULT, WELL DONE BOYS . ALL THIRTEEN PLAYERS INVOLVED TODAY WERE TOP CLASS .

Fixture: RIVERSIDE RAR V PARENTS
Date: 24 / 12 / 2006
Report: Riverside RAR were in for a big shock. They thought they were playing SAFC which I did warn them they were big lads!! On came the field the parents!
The parents started the better and soon had Riverside on the back foot. David Johnson missed a sitter after some great foot work from Jan Gillespie, set up a golden opportunity, which he did not take. Riverside tried to get back in the game but the fitness from the parents would not let them. The first goal came on 15 minutes, a corner from Rod Peachey was flicked on by Dean Bell and thumped home with a blinding header from Dave Johnson! (Who's he) The parents now were pushing forward and the second goal soon followed. A long ball from Grandad Mick was chased down by Darren Elliott who let rip with a 30 yard drive straight in the top corner. 2-0 the parents( the snipper in the stand then shot Darren). Riverside were no where to be seen. Just before half time a bad challenge from Ryan Johnson wiped Grandad Mick straight out probably a stretcher needed. Riverside by now had lost the plot and another bad challenge from Michael Williamson on his dad Jerry (speed machine) seen him grounded for the weekend. A tussle broke out on the half way line between the Peachey's! We think Rod won. The referee awarded a dubious penalty to Riverside. Connor Bell stepped up and stroked it home. 2-1 to the parents and Riverside rattled. The oxegen was handed out and gladly received by the parents. The second half started with Riverside pushing forward, they managed to get a equaliser through Ross Gillespie. The parents were not finished and grabbed their second wind when snake hips Wray ran 60 yards and waltzed passed 4 Riverside defenders and sat Walshy on the floor before scoring. 3-2 to the parents. The fourth came shortly after, a low strike into the bottom right corner from Dean Bell . 4-2 parents. Looking comfortable. Some Micky Mouse decisions let Riverside grab a third through Connor Bell. A real injustice when a penalty was awarded in the dying seconds, when no one was near the Riverside player. The parents argued with no justice. Ryan Johnson scored the penalty. 4-4 at full time. From the resulting kick off Dan Johnson shot and as the ball bounced on the goal line, the referee managed to blow his whistle for full time. The game to be decided by penalty shoot out.The Walshy's were level both letting in 4 goals. May the best man win.
The parents won 4-2. Dad walshy top dog , 2 penalty saves, The Xmas shield to the parents 2006. Never mind boys one day you might win it!
Special mention to our other parents who took part:
Mike, (the hatched )good year.
Andy (chopper) Hepple.
Alex (too fit).

Report: First game of 2007 with three wins behind us Riverside came into this game full of confidence and knowing it was a game to win as Easington were lying third. The game started well with both teams attacking each other, the first goal went to Riverside with Connor Bell battling hard and should have been awarded a penalty, but Connor stayed on his feet and shot into the top corner. Riverside managed only to keep the lead for five minutes before Easington levelled the score. We kept going but against the run of play Easington managed to get a second. 2-1 to Easington. Five minutes before half time Connor Bell managed to out pace two defenders and get on to the end of a through ball and rounded the goal keeper. Again we let Easington nip in and score just before half time. 3-2 to Easington. The second half was very tight. The Riverside defence of Ross Elliott, Tom Wray and Mathew Goodyear and some good goal keeping from Liam Walsh kept Easington at bay. The mid-field then started to do their work with Michael Williamson, Connor Peachey controlling the middle of midfield with Sam and Ross Gillespie attacking down both wings, Ryan and Connor working hard up front. Surely it was only a matter of time before we levelled the score. With 15 minutes left to play, Connor Bell broke from the half way line with a great through ball from Michael . Connor brought the ball under control then composed himself to finish well. 3-3. Riverside then again attacked after the re-start and then by now it was a matter if we had enough time to grab the winner. With 2 minutes left Sam broke down the right and cut inside the box and managed to lift the ball over the keeper and into the back of the net. 4-3 to Riverside and surely not enough time for Easington to reply this time. The game ended 4-3 to Riverside and a well deserved result, all the lads battled and grafted for the full 60 minutes. Well done boys.

Report: After the defeat on Christmas Eve from the parents, the lads were back on league duty today. The game started well with Riverside on top, it was not long before we opened the scoring with a smart goal from Sean Tindale. The second goal came within five minutes of the restart, scored by Ryan Johnson. By now we controlled the game even though it was only 2-0 and a few more goals were sure to follow. The defence looked really solid, the mid field in total control and the front two looking very sharpe. The third goal duly followed scored by Ross Gillespie, the fourth goal scored by Ryan Johnson and by half time it was 5-1 with Ryan scoring another goal to gain his hatrick. 5-1 at half time. The second half continued much the same as the first with Connor Bell getting his first goal of the game. Michael Williamson also grabbed a goal. 7-1 to Riverside. Connor Bell then scored number 8 and duly obliged with his third and the second hatrick of the game. Michael then scored again to make it 10-1. In the last five minutes Sam Hepple chipped in with a goal to make it 11-2 the final score. What a way to leave 2006.

Report: Riverside travelled to Sunderland SAFC with a great run of form behind them, having won the last 6 games back to back. SAFC were in good form aswell. The game started brightly for both sides with SAFC starting slightly better. Riverside were awarded a penalty which in turn we managed to miss. SAFC then took the lead and we kept battling but nothing going right. SAFC then scored another 2 goals to make it 3-0 at half time. After the break Riverside upped their game and within 6 minutes Sean Tindale pulled a goal back. Further pressure from Riverside but could not manage to get that second break through. After 20 minutes of the second half, Ryan Johnson managed to squeeze the ball home. 3-2 with 10 minutes to go, Riverside were back in the game and looking to level the score. The game was played in the Sunderland half with 2 minutes remaining Sunderland broke and killed the game with a fourth goal. A very disappointing performance in the first half but a much better second half and probably deserved a draw. Disappointing result.

Report: Riverside travelled away in the second round of the chairmans shield. The game started brightly and evenly with few chances in the early stages. Riverside gradually edged on top with the first real chance going to Sean Tindale. We managed to take the lead on the stroke of half time, after a good corner by Michael Williamson was headed home by Mathew Goodyear, 1-0 to Riverside at half time. In the second half Riverside took control and went further ahead after a powerful strike from Connor Bell. The third goal was scored by Ryan Johnson after a good turn and shot in the box. The fourth goal came in the last ten minutes scored by Sean Tindale who ran onto a through ball and slipped it passed the keeper. A lot of credit goes to the back four and the midfield for a solid performance in the first half which we built on in the second half to secure the win. Well done boys.

Report: On a very wet day and a heavy pitch Riverside entertained Durham City. We took control from the very start with Michael Williamson and Connor Peachey taking full control from centre midfield with Gilly and Sam working the flanks to the full. There was plenty of service for the two front men Connor and Ryan. There was some good one touch football which lead to the first goal created by Ross Elliott who crossed for Gilly to half volley home. 1-0 to Riverside. From the kick off we again put the pressure on to Durham. Connor Peachey drove a volley just over the bar. Connor Bell, Ryan and Sam all came close with all the play in the Durham half. The second eventually came after a cross from Sam and was headed home by Ryan. 2-0 at half time to Riverside. The second half started much as the first with Riverside pushing forward looking for the third. Lewis Ross was introduced for his first run out for Riverside. After some good link up play by Ryan and Lewis, Lewis slipped the ball through for Ross Elliott to drive home into the far corner. The back three Tom, Ollie and Ross dealt with what they had to. The fourth goal came after a tremendous twenty yard strike from Ross Elliott who drove it into the top corner. 2 goals for Ross! In the dying minutes Durham managed to sneak a consolation goal, but a very thorough win for Riverside , but better still a good football performance in bad conditions. Tremendous boys.

Fixture: WILLINGTON V RIVERSIDE RAR
Date: 4 / 03 / 07
Report: The weather conditions were not good for the start of this game, cold, very wet and windy. Riverside were more up for the game as they came on the attack straight away and continued with constant pressure. Willington could not get out of their own half, this was truly terrific performance for Riverside. By half time it was 4-0. The second half was much of the same as the first with Riverside doing all of the attacking and not easy up one little bit. Riverside had the bit between their teeth to improve their goal difference in the league. This was very much a one sided game due to Riverside passing and tackling and totally being on top from the very first minute. The final score 15-0 to Riverside, which shows how much we dominated the game.

Fixture: LAMBTON LIONS V RIVERSIDE RAR
Date: 11 / 03 / 07
Report: The next round of the Chairmans Shield was played at Southern area against Lambton Lions an a hard and bobbly pitch. This was going to be a hard match as the pitch was a leveller. Riverside started brightly without really creating many chances and only a single goal separated the sides by half time, a goal by Michael Williamson. The pitch was proving to be difficult and hard for us to pass the ball around. Riverside took control in the second half scoring another goal which was well struck home by Connor Peachey, after a great cross by Ross Gillespie. Connor Peachey then scored his second of the game with a left foot volley which should have killed the game at 3-0. Lambton Lions scored with 10 minutes to go and again with 5 minutes to go making it 3-2. Riverside, from being in a comfortable position now had to fight to hang on to the victory. The final score 3-2 to Riverside. Not the best performance but through to the next round of the Chairmans Shield. Well done.

Fixture: RIVERSIDE RAR V SEAHAM
Date: 17 / 03 /07
Report: Riverside entertained Seaham in the league with a good run of victories behind them. The conditions were very windy and going to make the match difficult for both sides. Riverside played against the wind the first half and did most of the attacking in the first 10 minutes with a couple of chances going begging. Seaham broke the deadlock after 15 minutes from a long range effort with Walshy having no chance. Seaham scored a second with 10 minutes of the first half remaining. The two goals were really an injustice as Riverside did most of the attacking in the first half with 4 or 5 good chances being squanded. A corner in the last minute in the first half was put away by Ryan. 1-2 to Seaham at half time. Riverside were soon back in the game in the second half when Connor Bell scored after 5 minutes. The third came quickly from Michael, by now Riverside were playing 2 touch football and really getting behind Seaham. Tom Wray popped up with a fine header making it 4-2. 5 minutes later Ryan scored the fifth. Seaham managed to sneak a one against the run of play. Then a great passing move from us involving Sean, Ross Elliott, Michael, Ryan and Gilly and was then finished by Connor Bell making it 6-3. Some of the best football moves all season were played in the second half of this match. This is 1 defeat in the last ten games for Riverside. Lets keep the run going.

Fixture: RIVERSIDE RAR V FULWELL
Date: 25 / 03 / 07
Report: Riverside welcomed Fulwell in the quarter final of the chairmans shield. It was a perfect day for football, we started the brighter and soon had Fulwell on their back foot. Riversides midfield really got into the task at hand and controlled the game from the start. The first corner for Riverside and the first goal followed. A good corner from Michael was headed towards goal by Ryan which was blocked and Connor Bell followed up and tucked it into the bottom corner. The second goal followed midway in the second half created and scored by Michael, a long range left foot effort. 2-0 to Riverside. We kept pushing and Fulwell were never really in the game. Riverside just could not get the third goal to kill the game. Half time came 2-0. The second half started much as the first with Riverside doing all of the attacking, a couple of good chances went begging. On Fulwells first attack they managed to get a corner and scored from the corner when the wind carried the ball over the top of Walshy. 2-1 with 15 minutes to go. Riverside would not let it slip and kept looking for the third goal and from a breakaway, a lob stroke pass went over the top of Walshy and into the Riverside net. Riverside still had three clear chances to win the game in normal time, all three went begging. 2-2 at full time. Extra time came. The first period of extra time Riverside totally controlled, a well worked passing move and an excellent finish on the turn from Ryan made it 3-2 to Riverside. The fourth after some brilliant foot work from Matty and a splitting pass was taken on the chest from Connor, who ran on in the same move and stroked it into the top right hand corner. 4-2 to Riverside. The second period of extra time was exactly the same as the first, all Riverside. The fifth goal came after some brilliant determined and battling work from Connor. He managed to pinch it off the defenders toe after chasing him back and tucked it away into the bottom corner. 5-2 to Riverside. A truly tremendous performance against a good side who were well beaten on the day. Well done boys.

Riverside kicked up the hill first half and what a hill! The early pressure came from Riverside who were unlucky not to score on their first real attack from Connor Bell. The early chances went our way but again the chances went begging as in earlier games. Byers first attack saw the first goal totally against the run of play. 1-0 to Byers. We kept going and before half time drew level from a smart shot from Sam Hepple. 1-1 at half time. Second half Riverside had the slope advantage and really turned the pressure on, it was not long before we took the lead from a cross from Gilly, Ryan headed home, 2-1 to Riverside. By now Riverside were looking for the third and really pushing forward. The third came after some neat football from Riverside, after a six pass move and a terrific through ball from Michael sent Connor through and drive the ball passed the keeper. 3-1 To Riverside. Fixture: RIVERSIDE RAR V AC NISSAN
Date: 08 / 04 / 07
Report: Riverside entertained AC Nissan down at the Riverside on the Easter afternoon. The three points would be vital in the chase for at least 3rd position in the premiership as we approach the final 5 league games of the season, we are still in with a slim chance of finishing second. Not bad for our first season of 11 a side. Another tuff game this afternoon when we started unusually slow. With the first couple of chances going to Nissan. Once we settled down after 10 minutes we then took control. Along range effort from Michael dropped into the bottom left corner. Some neat football on the edge of the box a shot from Ryan was saved by the keeper but Peachey was at hand to tap the ball home. 2-0 to Riverside. The next 5 minutes was very strange with us conceding two goals in 2 minutes. 2-2 with 5 minutes of the first half remaining. Just before the break Connor Bell snatched the 3rd goal to make it 3-2 to Riverside at half time. The second half started in blazing fashion with Ryan scoring a perfect hatrick in the first 15 minutes. 6-2 to Riverside. Nissan pulled a goal back 6-3. Michael took a shot from the resulting kick off and was very unlucky to see his shot tipped over the cross bar. Connor Bell chipped in with 2 more goals, the 2nd hatrick of the game. 8-3 to Riverside. Gilly finally scored after also thumping a shot against the bar he got his goal. 9-3. AC Nissan snatched a goal but the last goal came from Riverside making it 10-4 to Riverside. Fixture: RIVERSIDE RAR V BOLDON COLTS
Date: 15 / 04 / 07
Report: Riverside entertained Boldon on a very hot day. The early stages were very even with very few chances to either side. The weather started to take its toll with substitutes being used to the full. With some good passing movements from Riverside, the first goal was scored by Sam Hepple from the Riverside. A well taken strike, 10 yards out. Boldon equalised before half time. 1-1. The second half started with Boldon having the better chances with Riverside digging deep to keep in the game. Against the run of play, Riverside broke and a 1st goal of the season for Lewis Ross put Riverside back in front. Some stern performances in midfield and defence, also an outstanding display from goalkeeper Liam Walsh with 3 excellent saves, managed to keep Riverside not only in the game but go on to win it. 2-1. With the hot weather and also a semi-final on the minds of the players, this was a well earned victory with some very good spirit and determination amongst the whole team to grind out this result.

Report: Riverside’s first cup final at a 11-a-side was played at Swalwell Juniors, a great day for all to enjoy and be proud of. The game started with Riverside kicking with the wind and having a couple of half chances early on. The run of play was with Riverside who kept the ball in the Redby half. Against the run of play Redby picked up the ball and managed to score. 1-0 Redby. Riverside came back with good chances going begging, all of the first half was played in the Redby half but Riverside could not find the break through that they deserved. Some real good football was played. The second half started with Riverside now kicking against the win, it was going to be hard. Riverside took control from where they left off in the first half, again with all the play in the Redby half and some clear cut chances going begging again. It was clear to see this was not going to be a Riverside day. With ten minutes left it was still 1-0 to Redby, Riverside now pushed everyone forward to try and draw level. Redby broke to score a second, the third soon followed. Riverside did have enough chances to have won this game or at least scored in this final, but it was not to be on the day. A truly magnificent performance and with the whole day being excellent regardless of the result. Both Dan and myself were very proud of the boys and of the turn out of parents to cheer the team on. What an excellent day, well done boys.

Fixture: RIVERSIDE RAR V REDBY
Date: 01 / 05 / 07
Report: Riverside entertained Redby down at the Riverside complex looking for their first victory over Redby this season. Both sides attacked from the start with plenty of chances for both sides. The midfield battle was evenly contested when after 15 minutes Redby broke the deadlock to go 1-0 up. Riverside continued to push forward looking to draw level. Good football was played by both sides with no-one really on top as both sides cancelled each other out. A very entertaining first half drew to a close with Redby leading 1-0. The second half changed slightly with Riverside really coming out of the traps the better. The Riverside midfield started to get the better of Redby, some good chances were being created by Riverside but would not go into the back of the net. Connor Bell, Ryan and Gilly all went close but could not get that final finish. The back four were solid with Tom organising and controlling the game. Redby scored the second against the run of play and even then Riverside still had good chances to draw level and even win the game. Tonight was one of those nights where we could have kept playing all night and still not have scored. A really good performance which deserved better. Excellent performance, well done boys.
