U14 RAR Reports 2007-2008

Fixture: Riverside RAR V Byers Green
Date: 4/5/2008
Report :
In a traditionally difficult fixture where both teams are equally matched Riverside looked outstanding from the start and it was.nt long before from a defence splitting ball from Jonny Morgan, mikey Steele raced through to slot the ball through the keepers legs. Riverside were clearly on top in this game and continued to press when Jonny Morgan received the ball from Liam Harrison on the edge of the box turned beautifully and fired passed the stranded Byers keeper 2 – 0. In the second half there was only one team in the game and it showed when Mikey Steele scored his second of the game from a beautiful cross from Aaron Walker he headed home. Byers scored a concellation goal but were still second best in this game. Ben Cornell made it 4 when from a cross from Mikey steele he was at the back post to knock it in. In the dieing minutes of the game Mikey Steele was chopped down in the box by the Byers defender and Luke Sproates stepped up to calmly send the keeper the wrong way 5 – 1. An outstanding display!!!

Fixture: Riverside RAR V Jarrow
Date: 27/4/2008
Report :
Riverside needed to get all 3 points in this game to keep pushing for that fourth spot in the premier league, but when Jarrow scored first from a dubious penalty, it looked as if Riverside would have a uphill battle, but as in so many games this season Riverside knuckled down, and caused Jarrow some problems when going forward, the commitment of all the players and goals from Jonny Morgan, Shaun Robinson and Ben Cornell ensured a good 3 – 2 win for Riverside and a good three points.

Fixture: Riverside RAR V Plains Farm

Date: 23-9-2007

Report: In windy conditions  Riverside started quickly using the wind to their benefit by playing the long ball over the top of the Plains Farm defence when after 5 mins Jordan Pickford won a strong header in midfield, the ball cleared the Plains Farm defence straight to Shaun Robinson who timed his run to perfection on the edge of the box to run through and score the first goal 1 -0. After the restart Riverside continued to attack when Michael Dryden crossed from the right into the path of Jonathan Morgan who hit it right footed first time into the bottom corner 2 -0. Riverside quickly made it 3-0 when from a corner from Shaun Robinson. Jordan Pickford climbed above everyone else to head the ball home 4-0. Riverside now beginning to enjoy them selves playing some excellent football when from another corner Jordan Pickford headed his second 5-0. In the second half  Riverside found it slightly harder kicking against the wind , plains Farm started to get into the game for the first time scoring two quick goals 5 – 2, but riverside remained strong and managed to score once more  through Michael Dryden.6-2 when plains farm broke down the riverside defence and conceding a free kick and scoring 6-3 when Ben Cornell  made it 7 -3. Fixture: Newbottle V Riverside RAR

Date: 16-9-2007

Report: Riverside started strongly putting the Newbottle defence under lots of pressure but just failing to add the final touch when after 25 mins from some good play from Micheal Dryden up the right hand side Newbottle conceded a corner, which was floated in beautifully by Aaron Walker , there was a scramble in the box, the ball fell to Ben Cornell who finished well 0-1. From the restart Riverside continued to press and were much the better side, when from his own half Nick Carriss spotted the Newbottle keeper off his line and lobbed the ball over his head 0-2. In the second half Riverside continued to be the better side, with Newbottle only attacking sporadically, when from a riverside attack Aaron walker was brought  down  just outside the Newbottle box, Aaron himself stepped up to curl the free kick beautifully around the wall into the top corner 0-3. Riverside continued to look for a fourth when near the end of the game Jonny Morgan controlled the ball on the edge of the box turned the defender and fired into the bottom corner 0-4  fantastic display, well done lads.

Jarrow FC 3 – 4 Riverside RAR

Riverside started quickly getting on top from the early moments playing some excellent football, when from a Riverside corner the Jarrow defence failed to clear the ball and Ben Cornell stepped up to fire the ball into the net.Riverside continued to press and were much the better side when against the run of play Jarrow equalized , not disheartened Riverside continued to find weaknesses in the Jarrow defence but were unable to find the net. Towards the end of the first half after sustained pressure Riverside won another corner and after Jarrow again failed to clear their lines Luke Sproates stabbed the ball into the net 1-2 In the early part of the second half Jarrow started to put a little pressure on, but the Riverside defence held strong when from a long ball up front Ben Cornell found the ball at his feet and finding a jarrow defender in his way, played the ball to one side and fired into the net 1-3, again the game continued to ebb and flow with both teams having good chances but failing to capitalize when a long ball through the middle found a Jarrow forward who finished into the corner of the net 2-3 Riverside continued to stretch the Jarrow defence with Shaun Robinson Causing them all sorts of problems up front with his strength and pace when he latched onto a ball played over the Jarrow  defence to crash the ball home giving the Jarrow keeper no chance 2-4. In the last 10 mins Jarrow pressed trying to find a way back and scored a consolation goal with minutes to go 3-4. A excellent win well done

Riverside 1 – 2 Fulwell

Riverside started really strongly in this game winning the battles all over the pitch, which caused the normally strong Fullwell side to panic at times, when a long ball was played into the Riverside box which caused a scramble to clear, when the ball found its way to the feet of a Fulwell forward who fired through a mass of players into the corner of the net.Riverside anything but dishearten kept the pressure on the Fulwell defence but were unable to break through, the half ended 1-0 to Fulwell. The second half started much the same as the first with Riverside making all the play and continued for much of the second half when a long ball was played to Micheal Dryden who turned the defender and fire into the top corner of the Fulwell net, 1-1 still Riverside continued to press and were much the better side until after  a dubious corner decision was given to Fulwell  which they scored from. The game ended with Fulwell taking all 3 points. Well done to Riverside who were much the better side on the day.

Riverside 1- 3 Millfield

Again Riverside started off really strongly in the game and took the lead when the ball found its way into the Millfield box and Ben Cornell finished confidently 1 - 0 Riverside, after this Riverside failed to push on and let Millfield into the game and they soon equalized, spurred on by the goal the Millfield team started to gain confidence and knock the ball around scored 2 quick goals 1 – 3 Riverside never gave up and continued to create chances but were unable to find the net.
