Russell Foster Youth League - Junior Red Division – 8th November 08
Lambton Lions 1 RSB 1
This was going to be a tough game for us as Lambton are a good side who are battling for top spot in the league. We started off with the wind against us, and tried play the ball on the floor but it was hard for us to play our normal game with the wind so strong in our faces. We had the first real chance with an excellent ball played through the middle for Kaine to latch onto, unfortunately it came to his weaker foot and was forced to cut in on his right to take the shot but the keeper made good save to keep the score level.
Lambton was pushing for the first goal with the ball in our half for most of the first. We went behind with a fluke goal in the first half that deflected over the top of Kenty to open the scoring. Second half we told the boys to shot at every opportunity as the wind was behind us and they did. I don’t think the ball left there half at any point with our boys piling on the pressure and sure enough Metter’s our goal scoring machine slotted the ball past there keeper to end the game 1-1. Well done lads.

Brandon 1 RSB 1
This game was a total different kettle of fish, as Brandon is currently bottom of league table and struggling for points. We all worked really hard, creating a load of chances but the first half ended 0-0.
A bit of encouragement got the boys up for the second half and not giving Brandon a chance. We had a few golden opportunities with a lovely ball from Metter’s across goal for Aidan to hit a half volley which went the wrong side of the post. The passing and vision from Metter’s was superb in this match also the crossing from Aidan let our boys advance on goal. We went a goal ahead early on with Metter’s there again putting it past the keeper. With Riverside dominating and pushing up for the 2nd goal we got caught on the counter with the ball down the left and nobody to put a decent challenge in. This let there striker have there first shot on goal and unfortunately it slipped passed the reach of Kenty to end the game 1-1. Unlucky lads we cant win them all

Fulwell FC 0 RSB 2
Everybody was right up for this one, winning everything in the middle and not giving fulwell a chance. Our passing and movement was by far the best I have seen so far with Max Carr at the centre of everything.
It wasn’t long before we got our chance and hey we didn’t half take either. We got a free kick about 12 yards out, Fulwell did well to make the wall to make it as difficult as they could to stop Max from scoring. Max lined up the shot clearing the wall and not giving the keeper any chance of reaching it to make it 1-0.
We didn’t stop there as we never give Fulwell a chance, we didn’t take the foot off the gas for 1 minute and it wasn’t going to be long before we got another.
The second goal came from Scott Metters who has been clocking up the goals in recent matches, Metters gets him self in the box to slot the second past the keeper with ease.
The second half was exactly the same as we kept the pressure on and keeping them pinned in there own half. We had a few more chances but one in particular was when Scott Kent latched on to a difficult ball, he did every thing right but the angle on the pass was a bit much as it ricochet off the post and back out again.
I would like to thank everyone who comes down every week to show there support, It’s nice that everything is starting to fall into place and we can give our fans an entertaining show. Thank you again Steve :@)

Washington juniors 0 RSB 1
This game was action packed from the very start. We knocked the ball about with ease keeping the ball in there half for most of the game. The passing was superb, creating space and keeping them pinned in to there half for the best part of the game.
We finally got our break when there was a slight handball close to there box, everybody stopped waiting for the referee to blow his whistle but it never came. While every body was knapping the ball got laid off to the left for Aidan Forsyth to hammer in a well deserved goal. The game ended 1-0 but we should have had a handful, well done lads for not giving up the ghost.

Whitburn & Cleadon Bees 2 RSB 1
We went into this game knowing that it was going to be a tough one for us, but still went in there full of confidence even though they were out for revenge for the 2-0 thrashing we gave them a week before.
It was a real midfield battle with every one giving 110% effort, there were defiantly goals in this game but to whom we weren’t sure. They opened the scoring with an easy goal, we were caught on the break and we were chasing the ball back but unfortunately we had to rely on Kenty to stop him. Kenty made a valiant effort coming off his line very quickly but couldn’t do anything with the early shot.
We replied the best way we could with Kaine putting away a right poaches effort 5 yards out. Kaine could have also made 1-2 straight after with a similar effort but was unlucky not to put it away.
We went behind again with a scrappy goal, we just couldn’t clear our line’s quick enough which resulted in the ball bobbling across the line to end the game 2-1.
We lost this game 2-1 but this game could have gone either way, this was a very good game to watch thanks lads.

Easington Hawkes 0 RSB 2
This game started off like Saturdays game ended with every one putting in some class performances and creating some good attacking moves. We had them on the back foot for most of the first half and it was only a matter of time before we opened the scoring with Max netting the first with an excellent strike. Not long after the goal Kaine’s run was spotted and he was one on one with the keeper with the pack chasing, he kept his composure and slotted it in the bottom corner. This game was something else to watch as it seemed like RSB had turned a corner and was hungry for the next game to start. One of the best performances I have seen so far. Excellent work lads well done.

Whitburn & Cleadon Bees 0 RSB 2
We went into this game with the confidence beaming out of the players and it showed. Whitburn were a much more organized team than the Hawkes so we would have to work really hard to open them up. And then it came, Kaine with a lovely run taking on the defence down the right then releasing a square ball for oncoming aidan to fire an excellent shot from just inside the box which the keeper couldn’t have done anything with to make it 1-0. This goal wasn’t good enough for us as we were pressing for more goals, and it wasn’t long before Metters was released on the right side to cut in on the defenders and fire a hard and low shot to beat the keeper. This wasn’t the end of the entertainment as Metters showed off his dancing skills as he celebrated his goal with the crouchy that cost his mum double the money. Two top class performances today from everyone but I cant pick my best of the two.

Redby Whites 1 RSB 0
This was a really good game to watch as we started off really well with some nice build up play. We looked like we wanted it more for most of the first half with some good passing and runs. Second half we looked like a totally different team with them pinning us in our half and us not able to clear the danger area. We were unlucky to concede as the ball was saved, cleared off the line before the ball scrambled its way into the back of the net. We did have one clear cut chance near the end with Nat latching on to a long ball with their two defenders trailing behind for the keeper to make a good save to keep it at 1 – 0.

Easington Colliery 0 RSB 0
Our boys were really fired up for this game and wanting to get the last game out of their system. We were definitely the better side throughout but we couldn’t get that precious goal we desperately needed. We played some nice football and the players were working really hard for each other. It seems we were making all the right moves and making the correct decisions but couldn’t get that ball in their net. It wasn’t all Riverside though as they did have one good opportunity to score but with James on top form cleared the ball off the line and out of the danger area to keep it at 0-0.

Redby Blues 0 RSB 0
This was a real close game, our lads fought really hard all over the park. We had a couple of chances but still needed that first goal to settle things down but it never came. Redby played some nice football at times and had some chances on goal too, But Kenty was on top form and they would have to do something special to get passed him. We were really impressed at the way he charged off his line twice to stop them from scoring.
Unfortunatly the game ended 0 – 0 but we were all entertained on the side lines, good game to watch.

Durham Athletic 1 RSB 0
Durham are a new team to the Russell Foster league and they made a good account of them selves. We could have tied this game up with 3 maybe 4 goals but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. Every one was trying really hard to find the opener even Kenty neally scoring direct from a corner. As we were pushing to find that goal we were caught on the counter by a the only player for them to look like scoring, A lack of communication left a gap for him to shoot, and it went in. We can take lots of positives form this game also we have a couple of things to work on in training in preparation for next weeks games. Unlucky lads it will come.

Russell Foster Youth League - Junior Red Division – 27th September 08
Plains Farm Yellows 2 RSB 0
This game started off really well. We had a couple of chances in the first half and so did they, but nothing clear cut.
We had a few decisions go against us, one in particular was in connection with their first goal. We gave a foul away right on the edge of the box but only a few minutes before that we should have had a free kick next to the box for a similar challenge, but unfortunately the referee didn’t think so.
They lined up the free kick right on the edge of the box, our lads tried to get into position as quickly as they could but didn’t have anyone directly in front of the ball which resulted in a free shot at goal where our keeper didn’t really have a chance of saving it.
Second half it seems we took the foot of the gas a bit and they took advantage of this. Their second goal came from our goal kick, we tried to release the ball a bit too quickly and unfortunately the ball fell to the feet of one of their strikers who had a clean shot on goal.
After the game we sat down and talked about what went wrong in preparation for the next game.
Brandon United 0 RSB 3
The second game seemed like a totally different team out there as we were winning everything in the middle of the park, we closed down, tackled much better than the previous game so it was only a matter of time before we broke the deadlock.
Our first goal came from Tylor who picked up the ball at the middle of the park and ran through their defense and released a cracking shot to make it 1 – 0.
From this point there was no stopping us as the goal took the wind out of them for a bit.
We kept the pressure on and our persistence paid off with Max scoring a wonderful individual goal, and Metters slotting one in at the end.
We were all pleased with the transformation from the first game and the way our lads reacted to that defeat. Well done.

Russell Foster Youth League - Junior Red Division – 20th September 08
Lambton Lions 0 RSB 0
After a couple of cancellations we finally kicked off our season. It was a long awaited game and the boys were all excited and raring to go.
The game ended 0-0 but the score line didn’t give a good reflection of the game as we had the ball in their half for most of the game.
Lambton did have a couple of chances on the counter but we got back and defended really well.
There was a point were we had them pinned in their half for about 5 mins and had numerous corners but were unlucky not to put it into the back of the net.
We are all really proud of our teams performance today and all the effort every player, parent, coaches and manager has put in to make this team work. Well done lads.
Hilda Park Tournament 2008
Under 8’s Development
Sat 21st June
Our first competitive match for Riverside Boys was against Waldridge Park which we lost 3 – 0. This was always going to be a tough game for us as Waldridge have been together for a while now and we are just starting out. We started off really well in the first half creating a 1 on 1 chance with their keeper and defending really well. The second half Waldridge really put the pressure on and broke through with a goal. Riverside fought hard to contain them but unfortunately they sneaked another 2 past us.
Our second game was against Durham Tykes 0 - 0 which I think we should have won as we created a couple of chances but was unlucky not to put them away.
Next was against Redby, a very good team also and who eventually beat Waldridge in the final. Riverside was unlucky but got beat on the day 2 – 0.
By this time the rain had started, hadn’t won a game and hadn’t scored all morning but this didn’t stop our boy’s determination to win. Our next match was against Lumley FC who aren’t a bad side. We started the game really well and were pushing for our first goal. Our number 7 did excellent to put his chance away and that was the boost of confidence the team needed. As you can imagine the team and parents were jumping for joy. But this wasn’t the end of the drama as he followed up with his second of the game.
Riverside were on a roll and didn’t stop there as our number 8 who had ran his socks off all game slotted our 3rd. The game ended on a real high at 3 – 1 and couldn’t wait for the next match.
Our last game was against Hetton Juniors which ended 2- 0 to Riverside, with our number 2 and number 9 hitting the net. As the morning progressed our team spirit grew and our passing and movement was remarkable considering this was our first competition and competitive match we have played as a team. Prior to that we had a friendly with Durham Imps which we had also won.
I would like to give a big thanks for all the support and help we had on the day.
(Bring on the next 1)
