U12 - Boldon United FC V Riverside FC – Sunday 13th December

1st Half

We got off to a poor start conceding two early goals. We switched the formation to 3 at the back, 5 in midfield and 2 upfront. Ryan came closest to finding the back of the net – a good through ball from Oliver to release Ryan who clipped it past the keeper only to see it hit the post.

2nd Half

Riverside came out stronger this half with good work down the right hand side from Rhys who skipped past two defenders and then drove the ball into the net! We then had long periods of pressure from Riverside and an accurate through ball from Jake found Ryan who finished with an excellent strike, levelling the game. Taylor showed determination and by tackling strong and some solid defending we kept Boldon at bay and Riverside took the lead with a goal from Paul. (Followed by an ecstatic celebration!) Going into the last 10 minutes it looked like there was only going to be one winner but with a few minutes to go Boldon equalised. At this point we would have taken a draw as we were playing the league leaders but football can be a cruel game and with only 10 seconds to go Boldon snatched the winner. A good second half performance which proved that we are more than capable of competing with the top sides.
